This vibrantly decorated dish was hand painted, handformed casserole is made from an iron rich black Canadian clay. It is oven and dishwasher safe. It is a beautiful and functional dish that could go from the oven and right to the table.
After hand forming in hand painting, it was fired and my kiln to a temperature of 2158F.
This black clay derives its dark colour from a high iron content and as a result, the clay heats up very well and retains heat for a surprising amount of time. It is oven proof and dishwasher safe but caution should be used with the microwave as it will heat up much like metal (no sparks but the dish will become heated as if it was in a conventional oven). This is fantastic if you want something to stay hot (such as a dip) but ensure you treat it like something from the oven when you use it in the microwave (use an oven mitt).
